    Australian cycling star Rohan Dennis has signed a new deal with BMC after his move to the team.

Australian cycling star Rohan Dennis has signed a contract extension with the BMC team.

Dennis joined BMC midway through 2014 and has thrived at the team of Cadel Evans and Richie Porte.

He won the prologue time trial at last year's Tour de France with a record average speed for the race.

Dennis also won last year's Tour Down Under in Adelaide then set the world hour record, which now belongs to British star Sir Brad Wiggins.

This year, Dennis beat Porte to take out the national time trial championship.

The 26-year-old is among the medal contenders for the road time trial at the Rio Olympics.

Dennis had to pull out of the Volta a Catalunya stage race in March because of illness.

But he returned to form with second overall last month at the Tour of California, including a win in the time trial stage.

"With BMC everything I have done, from the hour record to my time trial preparation, even through to sickness this year, they've been supportive," Dennis said in a statement.

"It's a great team and a great place for me."

BMC would not say how long Dennis has extended.
